*Job Summary*



Under the supervision of the Department Chair and the Laboratory
Coordinator, the Laboratory Technician I assists in the day-to-day
operations of the Laboratory in the Biology Department.

1.       Preparation of laboratory materials and set-up for the biology
teaching labs.

2.       Upkeep and maintenance of the laboratories, equipment, instruments
and live specimens.

3.       Inventory of the biology stockroom and ordering of supplies.




*Job Responsibilities*

1.       Upkeep and maintenance of biology laboratories and equipment

·         Provides information to faculty and students regarding laboratory
procedures and location and use of materials and operation of equipment

·         Monitors and ensures upkeep of the biology laboratories,
 utilities and equipment together with the faculty-in-charge

·         Recommends and/or performs maintenance or repair of equipment in
the biology laboratories

·         Monitors the use of laboratories by faculty and students,
including laboratory working permits and work logs for laboratories and
equipment

·         Supervises students during laboratory clean up

·         Monitors use and maintenance of Greenhouse and Animal Facilities

·         Reports laboratory incidents

·         Opens and closes the laboratories for daily use

2.       Preparation of lab materials and set-up for biology teaching labs

·         Assists laboratory instructors and graduate/teaching assistants
with distribution and preparation of specimens, media, chemical solutions,
glassware and equipment required for classes and research activities

·         Performs technical duties related to biological laboratory
activities, such as operation of laboratory equipment and facilities,
preparation of materials for laboratory examinations; and provides
technical assistance during student field trips.

·         Cultures and maintains living materials for use in biology
laboratories

·         Assists the students during check out of glassware, chemicals and
equipment from stockroom

3.       Inventory of the biology stockroom and ordering of supplies

·         Keeps an inventory of laboratory equipment & supplies

·         Coordinates with the laboratory coordinator/instructor regarding
purchase of glassware, chemicals or specimens

4.       Departmental Assistance

·         Assists the department secretary in inter-department
communications or reproduction of exams

·         Performs other tasks that may be assigned.





*QUALIFICATIONS:*

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Science related course

·         With at least 1 year work experience in laboratory setting

·         Proficient in Microsoft Office application

·         Good command of both English and Filipino languages

·         Flexible, systematic and organized

·         Must possess good interpersonal relations
