Ateneo de Manila University

Welcome to the New Year! As we continue the school year, we also take the
opportunity to look forward and prepare for new courses under the revised
K-12 curriculum of the Department of Education. As part of its continuing
commitment to offer relevant training courses for professional development,
the Ateneo Center for English Language Teaching (ACELT) is offering a
3-Saturday workshop on Teaching *Oral Communication in Various Contexts:
Theories and Practice* under Dr. Elineth Suarez. The workshop is geared
primarily towards teachers of the Senior High School (SHS) program who are
tasked with teaching the course as part of the program curriculum.

The three-day program is designed to help participants understand the
theoretical grounds for teaching oral communication as well developing
relevant and appropriate materials that can be used in one’s actual
teaching context. Participants will have an opportunity to gain a more
thorough understanding of the basic theories of communication as well as
the functions/ purposes of communicative competence, including its
underlying concepts of speech context and style, speech acts, and
communicative strategy. They are also expected to form insightful and
significant perspectives in the teaching of the course given various
contexts. Finally, participants are expected to design formative and
summative assessment tools for classroom activities through a teaching
demonstration and outcome-based lesson plan.

Online registration is ongoing at *bit.ly/2017-2018ACELTModule
