[Blueboard] TOMORROW: ASSALAMU ALAYKUM: Muslim Voices for Peace, A Dialogue-Forum on Islam as a Resource for Peace (Th, 08 February 2018)

Office of Campus Ministry [LS] campusministry.ls at ateneo.edu
Wed Feb 7 15:35:56 +08 2018

*The Dialogue-Forum*

With Islam increasingly becoming associated with violence and religious
extremism largely by militant group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS),
one conveniently forgets one of the core teachings of this rich faith
tradition—*peace*. "Assalamu Alaykum" which Muslims use to greet each other
as part of their etiquette literally means "Peace be unto you." A
revisiting of basic and authentic Islamic knowledge may not only help
combat radical, extreme ideologies surrounding people's perception of Islam
but may also allow for an understanding of Islam as ultimately a resource
for peace.

Hosted by the *Social Action, Learning, and Advocacy for Atenean Muslims
(SALAAM) Movement*, the *LS Office of Campus Ministry*, the *Department of
Interdisciplinary Studies *(through the class *IS 163.16 Contemporary
Issues: Conflict Transformation and Peace among Religions*) of the School
of Humanities , and the *Sacred Springs Dialogue Institute of Spirituality
and Sustainability* of the Loyola School of Theology (LST), this
Dialogue-Forum titled *"Assalamu Alaykum: Muslim Voices for Peace"* will
feature top Islamic scholars from Southeast Asia who will provide us
authentic Islamic teaching and nurture our spirit as one people of faith.
