The Department of Psychology would like to invite you to the forum:

*Narratives of Resistance from Martial Law Activists*

*18 September 2017, 5:00pm-7:00pm, Faura AVR*

*Speakers: Dr. Cristina J. Montiel and Dr. Mendiola Teng-Calleja*

*Facilitator: Mr. Ryan Angelo P. Camacho, MA Cand.*

In remembrance of the Filipino people’s struggle against the Marcos
dictatorship, two Martial Law activists share their stories of resistance,
fear and insecurity, courage and hope. One resource person, born during
Martial Law and an adolescent during the EDSA People Power uprising, will
speak from her experiences as a daughter of First Quarter Storm activists.
Significant points include stories of parents and family friends from the
point of view of a young person in the midst of dictatorship. Another
resource person will narrate her experiences of actively engaging in the
political struggle, including fears and insecurities arising from
sexualized body searches by prison guards and pressure from liberation
movements to repress all emotions. She will also share her journey from
fear, paranoia, worry and guilt towards healing. Reflections on their
narratives, in light of the present context and based on various
psychological perspectives, will also be shared during the forum. Students
and all other members of the Ateneo community are invited to listen to, ask
questions and learn from these lifestories towards weaving past, present
and future actions in resisting dictatorship in the Philippine context.

This forum is part of the *Linggo ng Pagkilos laban sa Diktadura,* scheduled
next week 18-23 September 2017. The theme for this year's initiative will
be *"Protesta Laban sa Diktadura! 45 Taon ng Patuloy na Pagpapalalim ng
