Memo to : The University Community

>From : Arch. Michael M. Canlas

                                   Director

Subject : Meralco Power Advisory

Please be advised that Yellow Alert was declared by NGCP* from 9:00 am
until 4:00 pm today, 10 April 2017, due to insufficient operating reserve
[power supply] brought about by outages of the following power stations:

   - Forced outage of Pagbilao 2
   - Outage of San Lorenzo module 50 and 60, San Gabriel, Avion, Ilijan
Block B and Calaca 2 due to damages brought about by the recent earthquake.

In this regard, we would like to enjoin and remind the community to apply
all possible and creative measures to help conserve energy. Below are a few
measures that we can practice in our day-to-day operations as recommended
in the Ateneo Sustainability Guidelines:

   1. Efficient Use of Air-conditioning Units:
   - Thermostat control are set at 21-23 deg. C
      - Turn on/off the air-con/s 30 min before start/end of scheduled room
      use.
      - Turn on air-con/s only as needed and on staggered basis to prevent
      power surge.
   2. Lights & Equipment
      - Turn off lights during break time and at the end of the day.
      - Unplug equipment after use, when applicable

Thank you.

For immediate concerns, please contact us at 426-6001 loc 4101.

** "NGCP [National Grid Corporation of the Philippines], as System
Operator, issues Grid Operation Notices to grid users. “Red alert” refers
to the system condition when the contingency reserve is zero or a
generation deficiency exists, while a “Yellow alert” is a system condition
where the total of all reserves is less than the capacity of the largest
plant online, which for the Luzon grid, is 647 MW. When system reserves are
more than sufficient to meet the reserve requirements of the grid, the
system is considered to be under normal condition. The system alert, and
the corresponding power curtailment, if any, is lifted once demand recedes
or once there is enough available capacity coming into the grid from the
power plants." ( http://goo.gl/NXwyWc <http://goo.gl/NXwyWc> )*
