Contemporary anthropological studies find cultures to be dynamic processes
rather than static glues that reproduce expected cultural practices. The
purpose of this research is to explore the way culture is created,
reinforced, contested, and transformed within the context of a Filipino
small enterprise. An ethnographic approach was conducted to grasp the
enactment of culture at See & Install through the prism of job
appointments. Direct observation, participant observation, interviews with
key informants, and focus group discussions were conducted. Findings
revealed how owners apply certain traditional Filipino family practices
within the workplace that directly affect employees. Workers express
frustrations in the way owners-managers handle them. Traditional Filipino
family metaphor as cultural system does not appear to be effective as the
firm experiences frequent turnovers. A shift in cultural system is thus
