Islam espoused by extremist groups and to promote harmonious co-existence
among the people of living faiths. The Sheik is also in the country to
contribute to programs of the Philippine security sector.

[**The SALAAM Institute (with SALAAM being the acronym for **Social Action
Learning and Advocacy for Atenean Muslims) is an institution of Muslim
Ateneans who believe in a formation that espouses spirituality of service,
dialogue with creation, connecting studies to the needs of the community,
and the intersection of Ignatian and Islamic Spiritualities. Through
coordination with the Jesuits in Mindanao, SALAAM is already established at
the Ateneo de Zamboanga and Ateneo de Davao universities.]*

*Launch of* *Indigenous Peoples Week*

*24 October 2016 (Monday), 5:30 to 7pm*

*5th floor, Rizal Library*

Presented by LS student group Coalition of Ateneans for Indigenous Peoples
(CAIP), in partnership with Loyola Mountaineers, Development Society, USAD,
Baybayin, Barefoot, and the Media and Creatives cluster of Council of
Organizations of the Ateneo de Manila University (COA).

Inspired by the advancement in deliberation, in both Houses of Congress, on
proposed legislation for the institutionalization of Indigenous Peoples
education (or IPED) systems, this week-long series of activities seeks to
increase the University’s awareness about the rights of the country’s
Indigenous Peoples (IP - including, not limited to, those in Mindanao) and, by
providing avenues for dialogue on how to proactively respond to the
situations of IP communities as among those most marginalized, to encourage
students, in particular, to take part in the continuous pursuit of IP
empowerment.

The Honorable Teddy Baguilat Jr (Representative, Lone District of Ifugao,
House of Representatives of the 17th Philippine Congress) has been invited
to the launch, to speak about the situation of the IPs and their place in
the national agenda, as well as the IPED bills.
