*Program:* Government Watch/ Political Democracy and Reform
*Location:* SDC Complex, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Ave. Quezon
City
*Report To:* Program Director
*Period Covered:* Six Months (Renewable)


*Brief Description of the Project*

Government Watch (G-Watch) and Political Democracy and Reform (PODER) are
programs of the Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) that aim to contribute
in the deepening of democracy and the transformation of politics in the
country by strengthening governance accountability through citizen
empowerment and institutional reform.

G-Watch is the pioneering social accountability program of ASoG that
facilitates the engagement of citizens with government in enhancing
transparency and accountability in procurement, service delivery and
program implementation. PODER is a research and advocacy program of ASoG
that aims to strengthen and reform key political institutions, such as the
bureaucracy, the electoral and political party system and accountability
institutions and mechanisms.


*Tasks and Functions*

   - In general, assist in the conduct of research, production of knowledge
   materials and writing of technical papers related to the projects of the
   team;
   - Take charge of documenting activities and preparing documentation
   reports;
   - Collaborate with the team in designing the data-gathering and in
   preparing data-gathering tools;
   - Arrange and conduct data-gathering activities of the team’s research
   projects, which include, but are not limited to, review of related
   literature, interviews, focus group discussions, documents analysis and
   survey;
   - Process and consolidate the data gathered to infer key findings,
   conclusions and recommendations in collaboration with the team;
   - Assist in the drafting reports, research papers or related knowledge
   products such as manuals, documentation papers, etc. in collaboration with
   the team;
   - Assist in revising and finalizing reports and other technical outputs;
   - Prepare PowerPoint presentation and other presentation materials on
   the research study in collaboration with the team;
   - Assist in organizing relevant public events and activities of the team;
   - Assist in building and managing the database and pool of resource
   materials of the team;
   - Provide technical assistance to Project Officers of selected projects;
   - Attend all ASoG staff meetings; project meetings; including those
   convened by the KPA of ASoG for synergy and complementation;
   - Ensure proper and complete turn-over of all assignments, including all
   materials and outputs as well the conduct of briefing/ mentoring of the
   personnel who will take over the turned-over assignments;
   - Perform other related tasks as may be assigned by the Dean/ Associate
   Dean and Program Director.



*Qualifications*
The Research Assistant must have the following qualifications:

   - A graduate of political science, sociology, economics, philosophy or
   any related social science courses;
   - Has had written pieces on politics, governance or related subjects;
   - Has had background on research and writing/ editing (experience as a
   student is acceptable);
   - Has proven competence in technical writing and basic information
   management;
   - Capable of conducting data-gathering and data-processing;
   - With strong interest in politics and governance and strong passion for
   democratic ideals.
   - Willing and capable to multi-task, work beyond office hours and travel;
   - Capable of handling coordinative and administrative tasks
   systematically and with focus and due diligence;
   - Can easily interact, network and coordinate with people and political
   personalities coming from various political persuasions;
   - Professional experience in research is a plus;
   - Having published work is a plus;
   - Masteral units is a plus.
