The Claretian Communications Foundation, Inc. and the Loyola Schools
Theology Department invite you to a Theological Symposium and the launch of
Dr. Michael Demetrius H. Asis' book *The Filipino Church at the Crossroads* on
December 7, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at CTC 413.

Dr. Asis' fourth book outlines the theological principles that ground a
contemporary view of the Church in the Philippines and specifies the
challenges it has to face if it is to be Christ's credible witness in the
world today. Inspired by Pope Francis' vision for the Church, The
Philippine Church at the Crossroads aims to realize PCP II's call for the
Church to be a faithful community of Christ's disciples amid widespread
poverty and violence in the Philippines today. Faithful to tradition in the
spirit of Vatican II and yet critical of the Church's tendency to turn in
on itself, this work calls on the Philippine Church to shift its priorities
for mission by recovering the original simplicity of the gospels and not be
stymied by an obsessive preoccupation with rules and rubrics, and like
Jesus, go to the peripheries to bring the promise of God's liberating
presence.

Dr. Michael Demetrius H. Asis is Professor and current chair of the Ateneo
de Manila University Theology Department. He lectures nationwide on marital
spirituality, liturgical theology, religious education, and contemporary
Church issues. He is likewise a regular resource person for current Church
affairs for CNN Philippines, ANC, DZMM, TV5 radio and GMA 7. His books I am
Because We Are and Reimagining the Sacred were finalists in the 2010 and
2013 CMMA Cardinal Sin Book awards respectively. He is currently finishing
a book on Christ and Hermeneutics. He is married to Ma. Cristina F. Asis.
They have a son, Miguel. Dr. Asis may be reached at masis at ateneo.edu
