The “migration waves” theory of the peopling of the Philippines has
remained very popular even if it has received sustained criticism since the
1970s for distorting the “racial origins” of Filipinos. But where is the
scientific evidence?

Since the late 1990s, some geneticists have been collecting DNA samples
from ethnolinguistic groups and regional center populations throughout the
country. A number of studies have been published in journals of genetics,
but the information and analyses have not filtered beyond the specialists.

This talk, which is based on the lead contribution in the December 2015
issue of *Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints*,
synthesizes the findings of studies on Philippine genetics and presents
them in a manner accessible to nonspecialists.

Come and learn about the peopling of the Philippines!

*Copies of the journal will be on sale at a special price.*
