Dear All,

We are inviting you to the Ateneo School of Government's brown bag session
on *Demystifying the Impacts of a **Basel Ban Amendment Ratification by the
Philippines* on 23 June 2015, 12:30 - 1:30 pm, ASoG Conference Rooms,
Ateneo School of Government.

*Brief Description:*

The Basel Ban Amendment remains a landmark international instrument
that promotes the principle of environmental justice – no people based on
their race, ideology, or economic status in life, should bear the
disproportionate portion of pollution caused by others. The lessons of Love
Canal in the United States, Koko Beach in Nigeria and the many “classic”
toxic waste-dumping cases of the early ‘80s bear the collective global scar
that gave rise to this instrument.

In spite of its just objectives, the Basel Ban Amendment remains to be a
contentious and polarizing issue. Nations have drawn a line in the sand
that either labels them as
for or against the Basel Ban Amendment.
