*Thesis Abstract:*



*In this paper, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) were prepared using
three different organochlorine pesticide templates: dieldrin, endosulfan
and hexachlorobenzene. Optimization of different synthesis parameters
showed that the three MIPs prepared using 1:6:20 mmol ratio of
template/4-vinylpyridine/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate in 95% v/v
acetonitrile solvent gave optimum binding for the templates with i-binding
ratios of 1.9, 1.4 and 1.4 for dieldrin, endosulfan and hexachlorobenzene,
respectively.  *

*Binding studies for the three MIPs were compared using the data obtained
by UV- VIS spectrometry thru the dye displacement method and gas
chromatography.  Based from the UV-VIS results, the templates were more
selective to their corresponding MIPs loaded with bromocresol green (BCG)
because more dye was released when the target template was introduced.
These results were corroborated by GC-ECD for the same corresponding
suspending solution, where a higher amount of template was bound to the
MIP. Furthermore, a ratio of two template molecules displaced a dye that is
impregnated in the MIP. *

*Rebinding studies showed that the data obtained from MIP-DE, MIP-EN,
MIP-HCB follow the Freundlich isotherm (FI). These results together with
the competitive binding studies will also be discussed.*
