*SW # 1 PROMOTING CRITICAL THINKING IN THE K-12 CURRICULUM*

One of the goals of DepEd’s K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum is to equip
graduates with 21st century skills needed to succeed in the workplace.
Critical thinking is one of the learning and innovation 21st century skills
(P21, available at http://www.p21.org/index.php) which students should
possess to better prepare them in the real world as they learn to make
decisions and take charge of their own thinking and actions. How then can
teacher promote the development of critical thinking skills in the
classroom to help address this K to 12 basic education goal?

This seminar-workshop provides participants with opportunities to engage in
critical thinking activities themselves and explore lessons in the K to 12
curriculum where critical thinking skills can be integrated. Hands-on,
participants plan and design K to 12 learning activities that allow
students to practice critical thinking with focus on the information around
them. The workshop also introduces participants to technology tools that
support the development of critical thinking.
