*PEOPLE-TO-PEOPLE RELATIONS WITH THE PRC*

by

*Prof. JOAQUIN JAY GONZALEZ III*

on

Monday, 21 July 2014

at 4.30-6.00PM

at the Faber Hall Function Room

*ABSTRACT*

People-to-people relations have come to a standstill in the midst of the
heated government-to-government exchanges between the Philippines and China
on the West Philippine Sea. However, the presenter along with public
diplomacy advocates argue that this is actually the best time to fire up
Filipino charm offensives through study abroad programs and internships in
China. This is the first step towards cultivating influential networks
(guanxi) that will be the key to long term trust and understanding.

*ABOUT THE SPEAKER*

Prof. Joaquin Jay Gonzalez III has led successful China immersions through
the Jesuit-run The Beijing Center. Prof Gonzalez is also Faculty Associate
with CRCC Asia, one of the largest intern placement organizations in China.
He is Mayor George Christopher Professor of Government and Society at the
Ageno School of Business of Golden Gate University in California. Prof.
Gonzalez is also the author of Diaspora Diplomacy: Philippine Migration and
its Soft Power Influence.
