*LIBRARY ASSISTANT III (OS V)*

Rizal Library, Loyola Schools



*Summary:*

Under the direction of the Head Librarian of the Circulation Section, the
Library Assistant III assists in the overall day-to-day operations of the
section. This position performs paraprofessional functions related to
customer assistance and other library-related services.



*Job Description:*

1. Library Operations

·         Assists the Head Librarian in the implementation of major
projects, planning, and dissemination of changes in policies and procedures

·         Monitors check-out/check-in, holds, renewals and recalls, search
requests for library materials

·         Monitors the registration of visitors, alumni, retirees, and
researchers from other schools

·         Oversees monitoring of materials at Reserve Section as needed

·         Interprets and enforces library policies and procedures, and
refers to the Head Librarian when necessary



2. Information & Customer Service

·         Assists library users by providing information regarding library
materials, facilities, and rules and procedures.

·         Explains the proper method of locating and borrowing library
materials

·         Explains the classification scheme used by the Rizal Library



3. Collection Maintenance

·         Monitors shelving of books to ensure that books are in their
proper locations

·         Oversees the inventory of circulating books

·         Ensures display of newly-acquired library materials according to
specified guidelines

·         Ensures that all library materials are in good condition, and
identifies books that need to be repaired or replaced



4. Cash Collections and Remittances

·         Oversees the collection of payments for library fines and fees

·         Accounts for all cash remittances of the Circulation Section to
the Director’s Office

o   Coordinates with the Central Accounting Office/Head Cashier for account
settlements

o   Encodes and updates accurate ledgers and cash reports

·         Monitors and keeps transaction records related to the Blue Card



5. Communication and Coordination

·         Determines the eligibility of borrowers by contacting the
concerned departments

·         Coordinates with ADSA, and /or any other concerned
offices/departments regarding the return of books, hold orders, and
unsettled accounts

·         Facilitates Inter-Library Loan and keeps records for statistics
and reference purposes

·         Coordinates with faculty members regarding materials to be placed
on Reserve

·         Prepares routine correspondence on procedural and informational
matters



6. Administrative Support

·         Oversees the operations of the Section in consultation with the
Head Librarian, as needed

·         Provides inputs in the annual performance evaluation of staff

·         Mentors/trains staff and student assistants

·         Assists in the preparation of section reports, various
statistics, strategic plans, and projects

·         Recommends policies and procedures for the efficient operation of
the Rizal Library

·         Performs other related duties as assigned by the Head Librarian



*Qualifications:*

1.       College graduate, preferably with Library and Information Science
background

2.       Five years of experience in library setting

3.       Minimum of 2 years experience in Circulation Section preferred

4.       Experience or knowledge in bookkeeping is an advantage

5.       Experience in managing records is an advantage

6.       Must possess good interpersonal skills and strong customer service
orientation

7.       Proficient in MS Office applications

8.       Organized and has a keen eye for detail

9.       Has good command of spoken and written English and Filipino
