[Blueboard] KK Reading Series presents Rolando Tolentino and Rommel Rodriguez

Kritika Kultura, the international refereed journal of language, literary,
and cultural studies of the Department of English, Ateneo de Manila
University—in cooperation with Ateneo Institute of Literary Arts and
Practices (AILAP), Fine Arts Program, and Rizal Library—will be hosting a
reading and lecture by Dr. Rolando Tolentino and Prof. Rommel Rodriguez on
Dec. 1, 2014, 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the 4th floor of the new Rizal

The two fictionists and professors from the University of the Philippines
Diliman will discuss the process of putting together anthologies; in
particular, they will consider the possibilities and difficulties in
anthologizing, and will talk about the roles and relationships between
editors and contributors.

Rolando Tolentino is Dean of the University of the Philippines College of
Mass Communication and faculty of the UP Film Institute. He has taught at
Osaka University and National University of Singapore, has been
Distinguished Visitor of the UC Berkeley and UCLA Southeast Asian Studies
Consortium, and was recipient of the Obermann Summer Research Fellowship.
He is author of *National/Transnational: Subject Formation and Media in and
on the Philippines* (2001). Moreover, he edited a special issue of the
academic journal *positions*(“Vaginal Economy: Cinema and Sexuality in the
Post-Marcos Post-Brocka Philippines”) (2011), and the anthology *Geopolitics
of the Visible: Essays on Philippine Film Cultures* (2002). He is a member
of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino (Filipino Film Critics Group) and
Congress of Teachers and Educators for Nationalism and Democracy (Contend

Rommel Rodriguez currently teaches literature and creative writing at UP.
He is the author of*Lagalag ng Paglaya* (2011). He has won a Palanca award
for the short story in Filipino. He is a member of the Alliance of
Concerned Teachers, Contend UP, and Secretary General of the All UP
Academic Employees Union. Aside from writing, he is also involved in human
rights advocacies.

This event is a reschedule of the Sept. 15, 2014 reading, which was
postponed due to inclement weather.
