 *The ALiWW Research Awards: Call for proposals*

The *Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings (ALiWW)* is an archival facility,
constituting a special collection, within the Rizal Library of the Ateneo
de Manila University. Founded in 1994, ALiWW procures writings by and about
Filipino women in all areas, for the purpose of promoting their circulation
among contemporary readers, as well as preserving these for posterity.

On the occasion of its twentieth year, ALiWW has established a grant
facility—*the ALiWW Research Awards*. With funds from the Rizal Library,
ALiWW offers support for undergraduate students of the Ateneo de Manila
University doing their undergraduate thesis whether individually, or as a
pair or a group—on the condition that the research would utilize ALiWW’s
archival materials. These include manuscripts, photographs, letters,
diaries, and videos that document the varied and rich contributions of
women to Philippine life.

*Eligibility requirements *

Those who can apply for an ALiWW Research Award are undergraduate students
of the Ateneo de Manila University who:

1) are currently enrolled in a course whose main academic requirement is
the submission of a thesis that is being supervised and evaluated by their
teacher or thesis adviser;

2) will be heavily utilizing ALiWW’s archival materials for their research

3) will be able to complete and submit their research project by the end of
February 2015;

4) would be willing to make a brief, 20-minute presentation on their
research results during an ALiWW-sponsored forum that will be held in March

5) are favorably recommended to be a recipient of an ALiWW Research Award
by their faculty thesis adviser; and

6) are academically competent, as seen in their transcript of grades.

 *Benefits of an ALiWW Research Award*

There are two categories under the ALiWW Research Awards Program: an
Individual Category and a Group Category. Applicants under the Group
Category should have two or more proponents who are partners or group mates
in their thesis. The financial grant for recipients of an ALiWW Research
Award is* up to PhP10,000.00* for the *Individual Category*, and *up to
PhP20,000.00* for the *Group Category*.

The grant will be released in two tranches: the first tranche, upon the
conferment of the Award in September 2014; and the second tranche, upon the
completion and submission of the research paper in February 2015. If the
research is not completed by the end of February 2015, the second tranche
of the grant will not be released.

The completed research paper should be submitted in *hard and
soft/electronic copies *to the Ateneo Library of Women’s Writings by the *end
of February 2015*. In the Acknowledgements section of the paper, *due
acknowledgement must be given to ALiWW* for the support it rendered in the
conduct and completion of the research.

Aside from receiving a financial grant, recipients of an ALiWW Research
Award will be provided a venue for presenting their study to the Loyola
Schools community—an ALiWW-organized forum in March 2015. In addition,
meritorious studies could be vetted for possible publication in any of the
existing journals or publications of the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo de
Manila University.

*Application requirements*

Interested applicants are requested to submit the following documents
by *Monday,
8 September 2014*:

research problem or statement of research objectives, a brief literature
review, an analytical/theoretical/conceptual framework, a section on
research methodology, a proposed budget (with breakdown of expenses), and a

research, simple tokens of appreciation for interviewees, among others;

4) An AISIS-generated list of courses taken at the Ateneo de Manila
