The MANILA OBSERVATORY, a Jesuit institution engaged in scientific  
research, invites applicants for the following position:

RS-GIS TECHNOLOGIST

Project Title:  RS-GIS Integrated Analysis on Risks to Climate Change  
and Disasters: Iloilo City, Davao City, and Davao Oriental

Job Description:

Research, develop and implement/ test appropriate image processing  
algorithms/ or detecting land use/ cover change using multi-temporal  
Landsat/ single time SPOT XS of Davao City, Davao Oriental as well as  
Iloilo City
Generate via GIS other climate-associated hazard, exposure,  
vulnerability and integrated risk (HEVR) maps
Determine corresponding areas of land use/ cover based on the  
classification of multi-date satellite imageries
Map trends in urbanization, densification, loss and growth of  
vegetation and agricultural areas, commercialization,  
industrialization and other themes, as necessary
Contribute to a technical report and a scientific paper, including  
executive summary, findings, recommendations and annexes
Map for emergency observation, as would be on-call during disasters
Create a poster and give a presentation on RS-GIS mapping work

Qualifications:

College graduate preferably in any of the following fields:  Geodetic  
Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning  
and Management and other related disciplines
In-depth knowledge in remote sensing (RS) and geographic information  
systems (GIS) applications, especially in the classification of land  
use/ cover and the detection of informal settlements
At least two years of experience in remote sensing and geographic  
information systems (RS-GIS) applications and related fields
Adequate computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, especially  
familiarity with ILWIS, ENVI, e-Cognition, IDRISI, MultiSpec, ArcGIS,  
and QGIS would be an advantage
Proficient in oral and written communication skills
Good interpersonal skills and a team worker
