The MANILA OBSERVATORY, a Jesuit institution engaged in scientific  
research, invites applicants for the following position:

PROJECT RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

Project Title:  ?ANALYZING THE VULNERABILITY OF THE PHILIPPINE RICE  
TERRACES TOWARDS RESILIENCE AND BETTER ADAPTIVE CAPACITY TO THE  
POTENTIAL IMPACTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE?

Project Duration:  six (6) months

Job Description:

Research on, develop and implement/ test appropriate image processing   
algorithms for detecting land use/ cover change using multi-temporal  
Landsat and single time SPOT XS of Ifugao
Generate via GIS other hazard, exposure, vulnerability and integrated  
risk (HEVR) maps on Ifugao Province
Determine corresponding areas of land use/ cover based on the  
classification of multi-date satellite
Map trends in urbanization, densification, loss and growth of  
vegetation and agricultural areas as well as commercialization and  
industrialization, if any
Contribute to a technical report, including executive summary,  
findings, recommendations and annexes
Create a poster and give presentations on RS-GIS mapping work

Competencies, Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science and/or Masteral degree in the following fields:   
Geography, Environmental Science and Management, Physics, Geodetic  
Engineering, Geomatics/ RS-GIS
At least two  years of experience in area of specialization
In-depth knowledge of and RS/ GIS mapping skills, especially using  
ArcGIS, ENVI, IDRISI
Adequate skills in word processing, spreadsheets and spatial database  
management
Proficient in oral and written communication particularly  
research/writing skills
Good organizational and interpersonal skills and a multi-disciplinary  
team worker
