The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies invites you to

"Ultrarealism or Poverty Porn: Portraying Poverty in the New Indie Films,"
a lecture by Dr. Nicanor G. Tiongson, on Wednesday, 6 February, 6:00-7:30 pm
at Faura AVR.

The lecture is the sixth in the series entitled "The Third Golden Age?:
The New Wave Filipino Indie Film, 1999-2012," of the SOH master
class program.

To help prepare students for the lecture, Brillante Mendoza's film  
"Tirador" will be shown at the Rizal Library MMR on Tuesday, 5  
February, 4:30 pm and before the lecture on Wednesday, 4:30 pm at  
Faura AVR.

Dr. Nicanor Tiongson is the editor of the Urian Anthology series, a
comprehensive history of Philippine cinema from the 1970s to the present.
He was formerly Artistic Director of the Cultural Center of the
Philippines, Dean of the College of Mass Communication of the
University of the Philippines where he is also Professor Emeritus, and
a member of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino.  Tiongson obtained
his AB in Humanities at the Ateneo de Manila University in 1965 and
his Ph.D. in Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines
in 1979.
