[Blueboard] Dr. Ambeth Ocampo awarded the Presidential Medal of Merit

The School of Social Sciences proudly congratulates

*DR. AMBETH R. OCAMPO*
Associate Professor, Department of History

for having been conferred the *Presidential Medal of Merit* by
H.E. Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, President of the Republic of the
Philippines,
on the occasion of the meeting with the Filipino community at the
Asean-Japan Commemorative Summit
held at the National Olympics Memorial Youth Center in Tokyo, Japan on 12
December 2013.

Dr. Ocampo received the award for his "achievements as scholar, teacher,
and in recognition of his writings through which he popularized
Philippine history, art and culture, thus bringing these aspects of our
national identity and culture close to the people."

Dr. Ocampo, a Rizal scholar, served as chair of the National Historical
Commission of the Philippines and the National Commission for Culture and
the Arts (NCCA),
and is currently Visiting Professor with the Faculty of Foreign Studies,
Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan where he teaches courses on
Philippine History, Philippine Film, Christian Iconography, and Art in the
Banknotes of ASEAN.
