*BLUNITED FOR OTHERS 2013 Ateneo Fundraiser
In response to the call of the times, this year's Grand Ateneo Alumni
Homecoming, “BLUnited for Others, Come home, Rebuild the Nation” on 7
December, Saturday, will be different. BLUnited will not be merely a
fellowship, but an occasion to fundraise to help rebuild communities fallen
by super typhoon Yolanda, in particular, the Municipality of Culion and its
environs in the Palawan province.
Culion island in remote northermost Palawan is a Jesuit mission area. It
used to be the world’s largest leper colony. It was the last land area in
the country hit by super typhoon Yolanda yet had six major landfalls.
15,518 individuals belonging to 3,750 families are adversely affected.
2,003 houses are partially damaged and 1,096 others are totally damaged.
Through the collaboration of Jesuit institutions in the Philippines and
abroad, various partners and pertinent local governments, the
rehabilitation of Culion will be comprehensive, covering infrastructure
rehabilitation (houses, boats and energy resources), livelihood
re-establishment (ecotourism social enterprises, cooperative), psychosocial
intervention, and the establishment of a community-based disaster risk
reduction management system/protocol.
Help rebuild lives, houses, and livelihoods. Promote individual and
community well-being and development. Give without counting the cost. Give
for Culion. Attend BLUnited.
