"Globalization, Democracy and Solidarity: A Forum with Lech Walesa"

The Office of the Vice President for Social Development and the School
of Social Sciences, in cooperation with the Embassy of Poland and the
Rotary Club, will hold the forum ?Globalization, Democracy and
Solidarity: A Forum with Lech Walesa.?

Mr. Walesa, an electrician by trade who was a dockworker at the Gdansk
shipyards, led the independent labor union/party Solidarity.
Solidarity was instrumental in the collapse of communism and the
establishment of democracy in Eastern Europe through a peaceful
revolution very much like the Philippine People Power Revolution of
1986. He was elected President of Poland and continues to be one of
the world?s most important senior statesmen. He was conferred the
Nobel Peace Prize in 1983.

Cognizant of his leadership in labor and pro-democracy movements and
of a nation with over two million migrant workers, the forum hopes to
elicit insights into globalization, global capital and its impact on
labor and democratic movements.

The Forum takes place on November 29, 2012, Thursday, at the Henry Lee
Irwin Theater at the Ateneo de Manila University, Loyola Heights,
Quezon City from 9:00am to 12:00noon.
