Renowned Holocaust Educator in the Philippines

The Embassy of Israel will be hosting Dr. Racelle Weiman, in cooperation
with the De La Salle University for a series of lectures this November.

Dr. Weiman is a recipient of Order of Lakandula, one of the highest
orders given by the Philippine government, for her efforts to create
awareness of the little-known role of the Philippines and former
President Manuel Quezon played in saving Holocaust-fleeing Jews.

This year, she will be sharing her experiences and knowledge with the
students of De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, St.
Scholastica's College, and the University of the Philippines.

Dr. Weiman is the Director of the Dialogue Institute at Temple
Unviersity in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and is a consultant to
prominent media organizations such as the BBC. She has also been
consulted for the United Nations’ Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization - Organizational Committee for World Conference on
Inter-Religious and Inter-Civilization Dialogue.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in Jewish Studies from UCLA and a master’s
and doctorate from Temple University in religion and the Holocaust. Her
post-doctoral research includes Fletchers’ School of Diplomacy at Tufts
University in conflict resolution, exploring the religious elements in
conflict, and the Program on Negotiation at Harvard University.

In 2011, Dr. Weiman visited the Philippines to pursue her research on
the efforts of the Quezon family in saving Jews from Europe and the
Filipinos’ kind reception of them.
