The Japanese Studies Program is proud to announce that Dr. Lydia Yu
Jose has been conferred by the Government of Japan a decoration of the
Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon on 29 April, 2012.

The Order of the Rising Sun or *Kyokujitsu-sho* is a Japanese order which was
established by the Meiji Emperor of Japan. The order was initially
awarded to Japanese nationals who have made distinguished achievements
in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, and
advancements in their field. This is one of the highest honors to be
conferred on non-Japanese recipients. This was bestowed on
non-Japanese beginning in 1981, while the first women to be given this
honor began in 2003. Nine years after, a member of both the Japanese
Studies Program and the Department of Political Science was bestowed
this honor. And we are proud of her. Congratulations to Dr. Lydia Yu
