Allan Popa's BASTA and Mark Anthony Cayanan's NARCISSUS will be
launched by High Chair today, May 24, 5 pm, at the Chef's Bistro along
Tomas Morato, Quezon City.

BASTA, Allan Popa's seventh book of poetry, has been cited by fellow
poet Mabi David as "a work of clarity and stunning vision....an
elegant collection, remorseless in its intelligence...and our pleasure
at the finesse and audacity of its making disturbs."

An excerpt from "Basta," p. 41:

Patungo sa iyo sa yugtong ito pagkaraan ng lahat
ng ating nagawa para at laban sa isa't isa
sa kabila ng ating nalamang kaya nating gawin
sa kapwa, hinihingi sa iyo muli
ang magsimula.

According to Conchitina Cruz, Mark Cayanan's poetry in NARCISSUS is
"smooth-talking, deceptive and obsessive...strips sincerity of itself,
sincerity being--like what it professes to go against--a stance, and,
when particularly manipulative, a spectacle."

Here is an except from "What happens next," p. 35:

Some people can trace their lives back
to certain events--failed loves, grisly
accidents, callous parents. You will be
among the fortunate: you will look out
the window of your room, the city giving
your face back to you, and you will not
know how you have come to be yourself.

Allan Popa and Mark Cayanan are both faculty of the School of
Humanities, Loyola Schools, of the Ateneo de Manila University, and
are both working on their respective graduate degrees abroad.

The Chef's Bistro is at 94 Tomas Morato cor Scout Gandia in Quezon
City. Come for books and more!

BOOK OF THE  MONTH: UNYONISTA, The Chronicles of a Social Justice
Crusader, by Edmundo F. Nolasco

There must be something in books, things you can't imagine, to make a
woman stay in a burning house; there must be something there. You
don't  stay for nothing.
