Ms. Yuria Furusawa' s study examines the images of the Virgin Mary wearing a
local dress which are found in modern and contemporary artistic expressions
and religious images in the Philippines as well as in other parts of Asia.
This study focuses on the birth and development of these images, explores
the idea behind them and positions them in the context of the localization
of Christian iconography from an art historical point of view.
