Imagine a Metro Manila where transport and mobility of people and goods are
seamless. A Metro Manila where different sectors -- policymakers and
government agencies, the entrepreneurial sector, the academe and civil
society groups -- work together to address issues, employ innovative
solutions and ensure the sustainability of socially inclusive mobility in
the metro. Picture a Metro Manila where its people, especially the poor and
vulnerable, are capable of taking community-level actions to improve the
transport system.

This is the Metro Manila envisioned by the project Catalyzing New Mobility
in Cities: The Case of Metro Manila under the Ateneo School of Government’s
iBoP Asia (Innovations at the Base of the Pyramid in Asia) Program. The
project will cover key components that include research studies on
transport facilities, urban poor mobility, enterprises that respond to the
challenges and opportunities in new mobility, and a platform for engaging
various stakeholders through its Finding NeMo (New Mobility) forums, which
will be a series of discussions and information-sharing in an effort to
build a new mobility constituency in the metro. This project is being
facilitated by the ASoG with support from The Rockefeller Foundation.

On its official launching this January 31, the project and its partners
will share New Mobility initiatives such as the University of Michigan’s
SMART (Sustainable Mobility, Accessibility, Research and Transformation)
Mapping approach to identify, reveal and enhance the multi-modal/New
Mobility Grid in communities and regions around the world and other efforts
done by the Quezon City government, the Metro Manila Development Authority
(MMDA) and the Ateneo de Manila University.

The launch on January 31 will be from 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM at the Social
Development Complex Auditorium, Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan
Avenue, Quezon City. The project's official web page will also be unveiled
during the program along with other multi-stakeholder activities.
