About a year ago, the current Ateneo website began to show its age. Blocks
began disappearing randomly, the photo gallery could not be expanded and no
new entries could be made. The problems recurred over the year. A few months
back the entire website reset itself to 2006!
When these started happening, the University Communication and Public
Relations Office (UCPRO) was already in the process of looking for a website
developer, all with the help of a web redesign team composed of IT
specialists Patrick Medina, Sandra Lovenia, Ton Dolor and Rey delos Reyes.
Studies were already being made to improve the Ateneo website. Consultations
and surveys were already being done, also with the end of redesigning the
Spinweb Productions Inc. emerged as the bidder having proposed a design and
framework acceptable to the web redesign team. After several months of
consultations, deliberation and design revisions, the new Ateneo website
will become the university's main website and will take over the URL of the
former website, www.ateneo.edu. Although the redesigned product has been
live these past weeks, it has been virtually invisible as it has been
coexisting with the soon to be defunct Ateneo website.
At a few minutes before 11 this morning, we finally bid the Ateneo website
farewell. Farewell because although it will no longer be the main website,
it will still be around so we can make use of its archives. From today, the
new website can be accessed through www.ateneo.edu while the former website
can be accessed through w3.ateneo.edu.
In fact, it is still in transition so that some of those who access the
Ateneo website still get the old website. This is because computers do not
readily recognize the new IP address associated with the redesigned site.
Hopefully the changeover will be complete by tomorrow morning.
