TROPICAL STORM "CHEDENG"
25 May 2011
As of 11:00 a.m. today, Tropical Storm "CHEDENG" has intensified into a typhoon and estimated based on satellite and surface data at 350 km East of Catarman, Northern Samar (12.2°N, 128.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 9 kph.

Though Chedeng is not expected to directly hit Metro Manila, the community is still advised to take the following measures:
1. School Safety
§ Check building roof, gutters and drainage system
§ Identify and resolve areas with leaking and flooding problems
§ Secure objects that may be blown away by strong wind ( e.g. tarpaulins, tents, loose construction materials)
§ Check standby generators
2. Home Safety
§ Check roof, gutters and drainage system
§ Secure heavy objects that could fall (e.g. mirror, shelves)
§ Have your flash light, emergency lights and battery operated radio ready for use
§ Prepare first aid kit
§ Stay indoors if you are not advised to evacuate
§ Create an evacuation plan if your house is in a low lying area
