The Mathematics Department proudly congratulates Dr. Queena Lee-Chua  
for winning the Regional Prize for Understanding of Science in the  
East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific from the Third World of  
Academy of Sciences (TWAS)*.  Dr. Lee-Chua received the award in  
recognition of Eureka ? her weekly column on the popularization of  
science and math in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
She shares the award with Mahaletchumy Arujanan, the executive  
director of the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre.
* According to its website, ?TWAS, the academy of sciences for the  
developing world, is an autonomous international organization, founded  
in 1983 in Trieste, Italy, by a distinguished group of scientists from  
the South under the leadership of the late Nobel laureate Abdus Salam  
of Pakistan. It was officially launched by the secretary-general of  
the United Nations in 1985.  Its main mission is to promote scientific
