POWER: The thunderstorm last Tuesday, 15 June caused power outage at the
Balara and Katipunan grids from 5:26 to 5:40 p.m. Back-up power generators
turned on automatically except for the generator at the University Dormitory
(UD) which the guards had to start manually. The supplier of the UD
generator has been asked to correct the problem of the Automatic Transfer
COMMUNICATION: The thunderstorm also affected Internet service at Manila
Observatory, University Athletics, UPP office/shop and the Security Office.
The Campus Network Group restored Internet service at 4:00 p.m. of
Wednesday, 16 June.
TRAFFIC: The start of classes' traffic was expectedly heavy last week.
However, the Grade School and High School started their respective flag
ceremonies and classes on time (Grade School - 7:15 a.m.; High School - 7:45
a.m.). The number of late students and the time Katipunan Avenue traffic
flowed again are shown below:

*195 High School students were recorded late for their 1:05 p.m. classes
last Friday, 18 June.

These six to seven columns of cars compete to be in the two northbound
Middle: Vehicles competing for space as they inch their way to merge with
the northbound lanes.

High School Mass of the Holy Spirit: The High School Mass of the Holy
Spirit was attended by about 5,100 persons. This count was based on the
number of chairs at the High School Covered Courts and the number of people
counted outside the covered courts.
Only about 1,435 vehicles were counted in 10 carparks normally used by
Loyola Schools. Many attendees were dropped off at the High School for the
Mass of the Holy Spirit and Salu-Salo and picked up after the affair. There
was only one vehicular accident, involving a car of a parent and a taxi cab
at the Gonzaga carpark.
Traffic Outlook This Week: Traffic may build up and get heavy at certain
times due to:
Monday, 21 June: Grade School 1st Quarter PTC from 8:00 - 3:30 p.m.
. Venue: classrooms.
. Grade School students will have no classes but parents will be on
campus. Parents of 4,166 Grade School students are expected and that
parking will be full.
Wednesday, 23 June: Grade School Middle School Honors Assembly.
. Parents of the honor awardees from the Middle School are invited to
attend this assembly from 7:30 to 12:10 p.m. (Middle School population:
Thursday, 24 June: Grade School Primary School Honors Assembly.
. Parents of the honor awardees from the Primary School are invited to
attend this assembly from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (Primary School population
Friday, 25 June: Grade 7 students' Class Night.
. About 500 Grade 7 students will be dismissed at 6:00 a.m. on 26 June
after their class night.
Saturday, 26 June: Loyola Schools Freshmen's Parent's Orientation
. LS Freshmen's Parent Orientation at Irwin Theatre from 8:00 a.m. to
. Grade 4 Recollection: Ati, Bagobo, Dumagat, Ifugao classrooms from
7:00 to 11:20 a.m. of 160 students.
Gate Pass Stickers: Vehicles without gate pass stickers adversely affect
traffic flow on campus. Motorists are urged strongly to get their gate pass
stickers now and help improve the flow of traffic. They are reminded that
gate pass stickers obtained after 30 June 2010 will have a P1,000 surcharge.
SECURITY: No robbery has been recorded in Barangay Loyola Heights along
Katipunan since last Thursday, 10 June. Just the same the community is
1. Be alert while at Katipunan Avenue. Do not sms/text while walking.
2. Be wary of "friendly" strangers.
3. Maintain distance from strangers and suspicious persons.
4. Do not comply with requests to show ID or personal information.
5. Seek help from the nearest security guard or policeman or call
"Bantay Barangay" for assistance: 666-6603 or 0999-691-9709. Barangay
Loyola Heights has fielded more Barangay Tanods from CP Garcia St. to Aurora
Boulevard for the start of classes.
6. PNP Precinct 9 emergency numbers: 434-3687/434-3942. Precinct 9 has
two patrol cars along Katipunan Avenue.
7. For Police/Fire/Medical Assistance call: 117.
8. Residents of the University Dormitory, Cervini and Eliazo Residence
Halls are advised not to bring laptops at eateries along Katipunan at night.
9. High School students and freshmen have been the victims of conmen in
previous years. They are likely targets and are cautioned to take
precautions while along Katipunan.
Found and returned: The community is reminded to be vigilant in the care of
their personal belongings.
Loyola Heights Campus: Loyola Schools' ADSA office received three reports
of missing wallets last Wednesday, 16 June. One was found and returned
(middle picture below).

wallet with cash at the PLDT walkway. The owner claimed it at the security
office on the same day.
Ateneo Professional Schools - Rockwell: Over at the Ateneo Professional
Schools at Rockwell, three cell phones were found and returned.
Left: 7:05 p.m., Tues. 15 Jun.: Diars housekeeping personnel Ms. MARETE S.
NOGALIZA (not in the picture) found a cell phone in the toilet and turned it
over to the Physical Plant-Makati office. It was claimed by a Law School
coed on the same day.
Right: 9:15 p.m., Tues. 15 Jun.: Diars housekeeping personnel Ms. JESSICA
U. OMOSO (not in the picture) found two cell phones in Room 208. Both cell
phones were claimed by the owner, an MBA student the following day.
MAINTENANCE: The thunderstorm last Tuesday night damaged Miriam College's
riprap wall by the creek and toppled two acacia trees.

remove the obstruction as soon as possible.
The wall on the left side is Ateneo's riprap wall by the creek.
On campus, an Ipil Ipil tree fell and blocked Seminary Drive but was
immediately removed by San Jose Seminary personnel. A tree branch also fell
and briefly blocked the auxiliary road to Gate 3.5 but this was removed by
JSA personnel (grounds maintenance contractor).
