Abstract:

The world is undergoing subtle yet massive ecological change caused by
human activities. Decades of large-scale human activities have
unwittingly created environmental experiments, which have significant
impact to our physical, social, and political experience.

This lecture by one of our distinguished alumni traces the cascading
and uncontrolled activities of society and how people managed to
change in time to avoid or mitigate calamities. It also shows how the
present environmental problems is challenging this generation to
confront the behavioral, technological and political changes needed to
avert a catastrophe that is greater than past environmental problems.
It finally closes with practical yet significant activities that any
person can do to contribute to this effort.
