Dear Friends,

You are all invited to the English Department Lecture Series on "Assessment
in the Humanities". This talk will be given by Dr. Gad Lim on December 13,
2010, from 4:30 to 6:00, at the Social Sciences Conference Rooms 1 and 2.
The issues he will talk about are pertinent to the School of Humanities, and
may be applied to the rest of the university as well. The abstract of the
talk is found below.

Thank you very much!

*Assessment in the Humanities*

Students and faculty of the Ateneo each hold particular notions of
assessment, testing, and grading. In this seminar, we will explore some of
these notions to see what they reveal about students' and faculties'
conceptions about the role of assessment in the academic enterprise,
evaluate the extent to which these notions (and the practices that result
from them) reflect best practice in assessment, and offer some suggestions
for strengthening the link between assessment and teaching and learning.
While the examples will be drawn primarily from the humanities, the ideas
and principles apply more broadly across the university.
