ADMU wins Finance Quiz Competition

Ateneo de Manila University won the 11th Inter-Collegiate Finance  
Competition (ICFC) held last 19 Oct 2009 at the BSP Auditorium in  
Pasay City.  The members of the team are Emerson Escolar (4 BS AMF),  
Lennart Tanganco (4 BS ME), and Marko Florendo (4 BS ME). Dr.Darwin Yu  
coached the team, and was assisted by
Dr. Dennis Sandoval, both from the Finance & Accounting Department of  
the John Gokongwei School of Management.  The ICFC is organized by the  
Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) and is based  
on the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1 Program.  The CFA is  
globally recognized
and has become an important credential for serious investment professionals.

Considered to be the most prestigious finance competition in the  
country, the competition started with 85 Philippine universities and  
colleges participating in the elimination round last 18 September  
2009, held simultaneously at major Philippine cities.  The top 20  
teams advanced to the final round, and were joined by four foreign  
teams - National University of Singapore, University of Hong Kong,  
Assumption University of Thailand, and Chulalongkorn University. Fifty  
difficult questions in financial statement analysis, ethics,  
economics, quantitative analysis, equity, fixed income, and other  
areas in finance are asked during the final round over six hours, with  
20 points for each question. The final scores of the top five teams  
are: ADMU : 740 pts, UP-Diliman : 700
pts, DLSU-Manila : 680 pts, National University of Singapore : 660  
pts, and UP-Iloilo : 620 pts.
