*PANLILIO AMONG FIVE POTENTIAL PRESIDENTIABLES ON ANC FORUM*
A year before the May 2010 elections, ANC, in partnership with the Ateneo de
Manila University, organized the first “presidential forum” dubbed
“Countdown to 2010: The ANC Leadership Forum” last May 11 at the Leong Hall
Auditorium of the Ateneo de Manila University. Pampanga Governor and Kaya
Natin! Champion Ed Panlilio was among the five guests who accepted the
invitation to participate in this event. Also present were Senators Mar
Roxas, Chiz Escudero, Richard Gordon, and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.
Due to an alleged illness, Senator Panfilo Lacson was not able to attend.
Others who were extended invitations to the forum but declined were Senators
Manny Villar, Loren Legarda, Vice President Noli de Castro, and MMDA
Chairman Bayani Fernando.
Hosted by ANC anchors Ricky Carandang and Tina Monzon-Palma, the forum gave
a short peek at the country’s potential would-be presidential candidates.
All five guests were grilled for ten minutes in a one-on-one interview with
the anchors, answering questions on personal stands and certain
controversies. This was followed by a panel interview, with all five
answering the same questions from the anchors and Ateneo School of
Government Dean Tony La Viña.

*KN LEADERS EXTEND SUPPORT TO CHECHE LAZARO
*In a statement of support released this week, ten local government
officials from the Kaya Natin! Movement expressed their heartfelt support to
respected journalist Cecilia “Cheche” Lazaro who has come under fire for an
alleged wiretapping case filed by GSIS Vice President Ella Valencerina.
“While we agree that it is the right of every citizen to protect his or her
private life, it is also the duty of government officials and leaders to
practice full transparency and accountability especially in issues of public
interest particularly the use of public funds,” Kaya Natin! said in its
statement, signed by Governors Grace Padaca, Ed Panlilio, and Teddy
Baguilat; Mayors Sonia Lorenzo, Jesse Robredo, Fermin Mabulo, Jun Verzosa,
and Florante Gerdan; and former mayors Baby Congco and Mary Jane Ortega.
The KN leaders also encouraged the government to focus instead on resolving
the irregularities in their institutions and departments.
