[Blueboard] H1N1 Guidelines for Employees

To prevent the spread of the Influenza A H1N1 in the Ateneo community,  
all members of the Ateneo de Manila community are asked to follow the  
guidelines listed below:

1.  All members of the community who return from travel abroad must  
observe a 10 day self quarantine period during which they can not come  
to the University.  If they have flu or flu-like symptoms within 10  
days from arrival in the country, they are asked to consult a health  
care professional who can advise them if further examination is  

2.  Members of the community who develop flu or flu like symptoms  
(fever, cough, headache, muscle and joint pain, sore throat and  
sometimes vomiting or diarrhea) are requested to go on sick leave  
until they feel better.  However,  if they  have no history of travel   
in the last ten days and/or exposure to person/s who have traveled or  
persons with confirmed Influenza A H1N1 they  may report for work  
provided they:

      - wear a mask to prevent spread of infection to others
      - practice social distancing measures like not attending large
          gatherings and keeping a distance of at least one meter from others
      - frequent hand washing
      - use alcohol or alcohol based hand sanitizers

3.  Members of the community who develop flu or flu-like symptoms who  
have history of travel in the last ten days or exposure to persons  
with a history of travel also in the last ten days or who have been  
exposed to persons with confirmed influenza A H1N1 are advised not to  
report for work.  They must:

       - call their doctor immediately who will determine whether they should
             get tested for Influenza A H1N1
       - report results to their school unit.

4.  Employees who have frontline functions that involve frequent face  
to face contact with the public (students, parents, messengers, etc)  
are asked to wear a mask while at work.

5.  Employees who have infrequent public contact must practice social  
distancing measures like staying at least one meter away from persons  
they are dealing with.

In addition, all are asked to observe the following:

-  Regular hand washing with soap and water (or the use of alcohol  
based hand sanitizers)

1.  Before and after meals
2.  Before and after food preparations
3.  Before touching your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands
4.  After using the toilets
5.  Whenever you think you may have contacted or touch areas that may be
        contaminated such as door knobs, stair banisters, telephones, etc
6.  After handling animals or pets
       -  Keeping away from crowded places with poor ventilations
       -  Keeping away from enclosed places  such as cinemas and areas where
              there is increased contact with body fluids such as saliva or
              nasal discharges e.g. swimming pool or spas
       -  Avoid sharing of food; use a serving spoon when sharing food
              dishes  with your friends and family
       -  Avoid sharing of personal items such face towels and hand towels
       -  Maintaining a clean environment such as regular mopping and proper
              disposition of garbage.

Maintaining Your Health

You should keep your body healthy by
      -  Regular  exercise about 3-5 times a week
      -  Ensuring you have adequate rest and sleep (6-8 hours)
      -  Managing your work stress
      -  Eating a healthy and balanced diet which includes more servings of
            fruits and vegetables
      -  Avoiding vices such as smoking and excessive alcohol intake
      -  Ensuring daily fluid intake of about 1.5 to 2 liters

Social Habits

Be a socially responsible individual by
     -  Seeing a doctor and taking sick leave if you are stricken with
            flu symptoms until you are well
     -  Putting on a surgical mask when you are having flu symptoms
     -  Covering your mouth with a tissue or handkerchief when coughing
            or sneezing; dispose the tissue appropriately and wash your
            hands immediately
     -  Not spitting anywhere
     -  Avoiding unnecessary travel to areas that are affected with the virus
     -  Imposing self home quarantine if you are sick of flu or flu like

By copy of this memorandum, all unit heads, administrators and  
supervisors are requested to ensure compliance.
