House Bill 3732 or the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act has been
passed by the Lower House last May 2008. But a lot of work has yet to
be done at the Senate so that a counterpart version can also be passed
and the law be finally approved.

In light of the recent controversies that hounded the country relating
to the government?s denial of the people?s right to know, the push for
the passage of the FOI is indeed a priority. There is an urgency to
pass the bill before the Congress adjourns in June when everybody will
then be focused on the 2010 elections.

The legislative advocacy at the Senate and the effort to inform the
public about their right to know so that they too can be involved in
this effort are huge and noble tasks that need to be shared by as many
organizations as possible. This is the idea behind organizing a ?PASS
THE FOI LAW NOW!? campaign where CSOs, media institutions, business
groups and private sectors are seen as prime movers.

May we invite you on 20 February 2009, 9:00 am to 12:00 nn at
Conference Hall, Fr. Arrupe Road, Social Development Complex, Ateneo
De Manila University, Katipunan, Quezon City to discuss the said
campaign and hopefully have your commitment to support it after.
