The Department of Biology cordially invites everyone to the BioSeminar

"Health and Biotechnology: Challenges, Opportunities and Future Directions"

Dr. Raul Destura
Director, Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology
National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines - Manila

on December 2, 2008, 4:30-6:00 PM

at Escaler Hall, Science Education Complex

In our world where infectious diseases easily cross national
boundaries through jets and where new microbial threats emerge, it is
important to exploit all tools available to prevent and fight the
diseases caused by microbes. Dr. Raul Destura's experience in
collaborative research work will provide us insight on how to use
biotechnology to prevent and control infectious diseases.

Dr. Destura is the head of the Study Group on Enteric Diseases, a
collaboration between the University of Virginia and the University of
the Philippines. He is also one of the 2008 Outstanding Young
Scientists, awarded by the National Academy of Science and Technology.
