Fidel, Ciriaco, Ruben, Badong, and Major fought for the country's
freedom during the World War II in their youthful years. Now that they
are old and gray, they have risked their lives once more for another
mission across the seas.

Benjamin Pimentel tells their stories in "Mga Gerilya sa Powell
Street," a poignant novel set in the cold streets and apartment
buildings of San Francisco. Pimentel (HS '81) is a multi-awarded
journalist and documentary filmmaker. This is his first novel.

Veteran actors Tommy Abuel, Bembol Roco, Lou Veloso, and Dido de la
Paz lead the cast that brings the novel's characters to life in
Tanghalang Pilipino's adaptation by playwright Rody Vera and director
Chris Millado.

The play will run for four weekends in November at the CCP's
Tanghalang Huseng Batute, with evening performances (8 pm) Fridays and
Saturdays, and matinees (3 pm) Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets may be
reserved through Tanghalang Pilipino (832-3661).

"Mga Gerilya sa Powell Street" was published in 2007 and has been
nominated for the National Book Award for fiction. It is available at
the LS Bookstore (4266001 ext 5184) and other good bookshops.
