balikBAYAN: SOSS Week ’08
This year’s School of Social Sciences Week highlights the excellence of the Filipino and the redefining and revolutionizing role of the Filipino youth in building the Filipino nation. From February 5 to 9, join us in celebrating the contemporary Filipino from all aspects of life. From live exhibits, public ad contests, an amazing race, one of a kind talks, and heroes awards, come share in the experience of this momentous occasion by actively participating in the festivities! Come and join the fun in the School of Social Sciences, were its One SOSSiety.
□ February 5- Opening Ceremonies
Tuesday, 930am-12pm, Colayco Pavilion
o 930-1030 Mass at the College Chapel
o 1020-1030 Parade to Colayco Pavilion with the MMDA Marching Band
o 1030-1200 Program
□ February 5-8- SOSS Fair, SEC FIELD
o An Exhibit of contemporary Filipinos (entrepreneurs and their products, achievers and their accomplishments, etc) who have brought glory to our country and may inspire students to be proud of what is Pinoy. The exhibit will feature booths around the field with different products and visuals of the Filipino accomplishments
□ February 5-8- Course Exhibit, Colayco Pavilion
o Economics Barter Fair
§ No cash? No problem! Just barter it!

§ Theme: Barter
o It’s Poppin
§ European Studies and History Course Reps’ Exhibit
§ Theme: Pinoy Pop Culture
§ Contents: There’s a freedom wall, pictures of not well known people (achievements), representations of pop culture (traits, mannerisms, food)
§ Political Science Course Representatives together with the Assembly
§ Theme: Politics found in art

□ February 5-8- Heroes Awards
o Do we still have a HERO in the Ateneo? OF COURSE WE DO?! Watch out for the unveiling of the HEROIC School of Social Sciences students and the Loyola Schools' Non-teaching Personnel whom you have nominated and supported in this year's School of Social Sciences' Week HEROES AWARDS from Nov. 5 to Nov. 9. Who knows, our HERO may be sitting right next to you!

o Psychology Course Representatives together with Psychology Department
o Theme: Explaining the Filipino psyche
o Topics: Blogging, juvenile delinquency, technology through a psychological perspective
□ February 7- KatuTUBO
o Thursday, 5-7pm, Escaler Hall
o An open to all, 1-minute Public Ad/Commercial Contest culminating in an awards night with each video must showcasing a part of Filipino culture. Cash prize and certificates await the winners! (Escaler, 5:00 – 700 pm)
□ February 8- Kaisa: the LGU and You
o Friday, 430-630pm, Leong Hall Auditorium
o SPEAKER: MMDA CHAIRMAN BAYANI FERNANDO
o KAISA: Kabataan Angat sa Isang Sanggunian, an event which aims to
§ 1) provide the students with an avenue to get to know and address a number of their local government leaders,
§ 2) to inform the students of the roles of the local government units and how a regular citizen may participate in his/her own government without necessarily holding office and
§ 3) gain insight from the personal experiences and perspectives of the local government leaders about the national situation.
□ February 8- Wow! Kabataan: The Ultimate Challenge
o Friday, 430-830pm, around the LS Campus
o 10-12 teams of 3 members participating in various challenges that seek to highlight the various talents of the contemporary Filipino youth.
□ February 9- Pinoy Kalye
o Saturday, Cubao Shoe Expo, 8pm-1am
o This year’s culminating night has been aptly named Pinoy Kalye as the main objective of the night is to define the modern Filipino in his most creative, natural and proudly Pinoy milieu - the street. Showcasing his diversity and mastery in different fields such as Music, Dance, Art and Fashion, this event will commence of February 9, 2008, Saturday from 8 in the evening to 1 in the morning, with a projected minimum attendance of 500 students.
