Ateneo Alumni Scholars Association
Celebrates 20 years on December 15, 2007

For over 40 years now, thousands of scholars have benefited from a Jesuit
college education at the Ateneo de Manila University. Since the 1960s, generous
benefactors and the University itself have been assisting financially-
challenged but deserving students from all over the Philippines earn college
degrees at the Ateneo de Manila through tuition & fees scholarships, dorm
grants, allowances, and other forms of support. But it was in 1987, through the
initiative of Fr. William H. Kreutz, S.J. that the Scholars-for-Scholars
Scholarship Fund (SSSF) from donations of alumni scholars was established
through the Office of Admission and Aid.

Ateneo scholars are now successful CEOs, managers, engineers, doctors,
scientists, entrepreneurs, lawyers, teachers and leaders in the academe,
government and in the public & private sectors. They have organized themselves
to form the Ateneo Alumni Scholars Association (AASA) which is managed by an
Executive Committee. Their mission is not just to raise funds for scholarships
but to provide occasions to strengthen ties with each other, the Loyola Schools
and the people who continually help Ateneo scholars. It is through AASA that
they share the gift of an Ateneo education by helping new generations of Ateneo
scholars.

To mark their 20th year, AASA is holding a thanksgiving and fellowship
reception on December 15, 2007, Saturday, 4 PM at the Roofdeck of the Manuel V.
Pangilinan Center for Student Leadership (formerly Colayco Hall), Loyola
Heights Campus.

The gathering will be an occasion to honor AASA founder, Fr. Kreutz, S.J. who
devoted a significant part of his life to helping Ateneo scholars. The
anniversary get-together precedes two university events: a Holy Rosary to be
led by former President Corazon C. Aquino at 8 PM and Simbang Gabi at 8:30 PM
to be presided by Rev. Catalino G. Arevalo, S.J. with the Ateneo Chamber
Singers as the choir, at the Church of Gesu.

Ateneo scholars and friends are cordially invited to this heartfelt
celebration. It will be a night of good music, good food and great company that
will have everyone reliving the good years, finding old friends and meeting new
ones.

Attendees are encouraged to register by contacting AASA’s event organizer
