"Body and Sexuality: Theological-Pastoral Reflections on Women in
Asia," edited by theologian Agnes Brazal and lawyer Andrea
Lizares Si, will be launched on Tuesday, May 22, 2007, 8 am, at
the Maryhill School of Theology, New Manila, Quezon City.

"Body and Sexuality" is an interdisciplinary anthology of essays
and reflections on topics usually considered taboo and skirted
in public discussions. The authors, both lay and religious,
engage feminist biblical and theological literature, as well as
gender theory, women's psychology, queer theory, and Asian
philosophy and religions. According to one review, "Never before
have we seen such a plurality of female subjects entering into
Asian theological discourse. We have theological reflections on
Filipina domestic workers, female sex workers, lesbians, older
women, and victims of clergy abuse." At the same time "the
anthology does not treat Asian women only as victims, but as
subjects capable of seeking their pleasures and expressing their
desires."

The book is part of the new series of the Ateneo Press, Theology
and Religious Studies, which aims to put out critical
reflections on the faith to better respond to the signs of the
times, as well as new theological works that present new
findings and dialogue with other disciplines and insights
arising from thoughtful public debate.

The launch is a special feature of the conference, "Cyberspace:
New Frontier in Mission," to be held from May 21 to 22 at the
Maryhill School of Theology (Tel 7212695; 7225043). The book
will be available at a launching price during the conference,
but now also available in the following good bookstores: Fully
Booked (756-5001), Popular Bookstore (372-2162), and Solidaridad
(523-0870). On campus the books may be bought directly from the
LS bookstore (4266001 loc. 5184) and the Ateneo Press bookshop
(4265984; 4266001 ext 4613; unipress at admu.edu.ph;
