"Philippine scholarship and globalization: An introduction to publishing
with Philippine Studies"

by Robby Kwan Laurel
Managing Editor, Philippine Studies

May 16, Wednesday
4:00-5:30 p.m.
Ching Tan Room (CTC 111)

The faculty are invited to a talk on the process of publishing academic
papers. The presentor will first discuss how area studies is changing,
presenting the debates surrounding not just scholarship in particular,
but the whole concept of how knowledge is getting organized and
re-organized. This is very relevant to the drive and critique towards
ISI-accreditation, which is happening in many parts of the world. He will
then show the impact of globalization on universities, rankings,
scholarship, and specifically its impact on Philippine Studies. Then he
will go to the particulars of papers submitted to Philippine Studies,
what works, and
what does not work. The goal is simple: to encourage young scholars to
explore research and scholarship, and to submit to Philippine Studies.
The fruits for these things take time, but the talk is a good start.

Please notify the VP's office (c/o Ms. Marla Andrada) if you are
attending.
