SITUATION REPORT

Wednesday, 24 January 2007

 

WATER:  Water samples taken from the cisterns and overhead tanks at APS-Rockwell have been found potable and conform to the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water with regard to coliform bacteria.   

 

SECURITY:  A white Nissan Sentra evaded a police check point in Pasig last Thursday, 18 January 2007.  Undercover policemen on motorcycles pursued the car until Ateneo's Gate 3 where it was intercepted at 5:20 p.m.  Undercover motorcycle policemen pursuing the car fired a warning shot to force the vehicle to stop.  A Central Police District mobile car also blocked the car near Gate 3.5.  

 

The male driver and female passenger were apprehended and taken by the police.  Nobody was hurt in the incident and the police warning shot was hardly noticed by motorists caught in the afternoon rush hour.

On campus, a former driver of a Loyola Schools student was apprehended after he was seen opening bags of high school students from Sienna College participating in Milo Best volleyball games.   The driver, ANTONIO MANGALINDAN VILLEGAS had in his possession the Nokia 6600 cellular phone of one student.

 

Antonio M. Villegas, 61 years old resident of 24 Imperial St., Cubao, Quezon City was a driver of a III MECO student.  He was apprehended by the police for gambling at the Northwest Carpark last 21 July 2005.  His picture which was taken at the police station is shown below.  His picture, together with four other drivers detained at Precinct 9 was published in the Security Bulletin dated 22 July 2005. The suspect carried an expired ID (shown below) issued by Loyola Schools to drivers of students.  The suspect used the expired ID to gain entry on campus.

Antonio M. Villegas was turned over the police.  He is expected to be released because the cell phone he stole has been returned to the owner.  If seen on campus, the community is requested to notify security immediately.

 

Car break-in:  Two cases of cars broken in and laptops stolen were reported.  The first case was on 18 December 2006 and the latest was last Tuesday, 23 January.  Vehicle owners parking along the diversion road are requested to place valuables inside the trunk of their vehicles.  Security will intensify patrols in the area.

TRAFFIC:  Five Loyola Schools (LS) students were involved in a vehicular accident in Katipunan at 11:50 p.m. last Friday, 19 January.  Four of the students were in a northbound taxi along Katipunan that turned to Gate 2 from the flyover.  A vehicle driven by another LS student coming from the service road smashed into the taxi.  Passengers and drivers were taken to the Quirino Memorial Hospital.   Other than minor injuries, all were released after undergoing X-ray and checkup.  Again, the community is encouraged to take precaution late at night and very early in the morning along Katipunan.

An alumnus was involved in a traffic accident with a motorcycle at 8:15 a.m. last Sunday, 21 January.  A witness claimed that the southbound car appeared to be making an illegal U-turn at the U-turn near Gate 3.5.  A speeding motorcycle with two back riders smashed into the driver's side of the car.  The driver of the motorcycle wore a helmet but the passengers did not have helmets.  Fortunately, they all only suffered minor injuries.

Freak accidents:  Two accidents occurred last Monday, 23 January.  The first occurred at 11:55 a.m. near the Gate 2 pedestrian footbridge shown below:

Another accident occurred at 2:35 p.m. of Tuesday, 23 January.  A Toyota Revo smashed into parked vehicles after avoiding a taxi at the South carpark near the football field.  Damaged were a parked Nissan Safari, a Kia van beside and a Hyundai Getz shown below.

PARKING:  To improve parking along the diversion road (road closest to Katipunan), earth mounds were leveled since Wednesday 17 January.  Plants and trees were also relocated.
