TRAFFIC: The main causes of accidents in Katipunan are the flagrant disregard of traffic rules and irresponsible driving.
Accident No.1: 10:10 a.m. Thursday, 9 August. A white SUV darted from the southbound service road (near National Book Store) crossing Katipunan to make a U-turn under the Gate 2.5 pedestrian footbridge. A southbound green Lancer smashed into the rear of the SUV. Nobody was hurt but both vehicles were damaged. The white SUV should have made the U-turn under the flyover.
Accident No. 2: 8:15 p.m. Friday, 10 August. A northbound motorcycle on the outermost lane of Katipunan (closest to Ateneo) slammed into a Camry turning right with flashing turn-signal to Gate 3. The motorcyclist and his passenger suffered minor injuries. The Camry's front passenger door was damaged. The motorcyclists asked the Camry driver to claim from the insurance the cost of the repairs needed and forget the incident. The traffic accident investigator ruled that the motorcycle was at fault.
Accident No. 3: 8:30 a.m. Saturday, 11 August. A southbound motorcycle on the inner lane smashed into a Lancer making a U-turn under the Gate 2.5 footbridge. The Lancer incurred major damage while the motorcycle had only broken light covers. The community is advised to drive defensively along Katipunan and to be particularly wary of irresponsible motorcyclists.
Footbridge in front of Miriam College: MMDA personnel removed the advertisement billboards, the cover of the footbridge, and demolished illegal concrete structures on the west end of the footbridge.
MMDA's operation and heavy equipment affected flow of traffic particularly last Friday, 10 August after the early dismissal of the Grade School.
SECURITY: Around 4:00 a.m., Thursday, 9 August, commuters found a dead man in the shortcut road perpendicular to Katipunan. This was immediately reported to the police.
PNP SOCO personnel recovering an alleged "salvage victim".
Around 1:00 a.m. of Friday, 10 August three alleged "salvage victims" were found on the southbound service road of Katipunan near the MMDA station. This incident was reported in the media.
Graffiti: The structures defaced by vandals last week have been repainted to cover the graffiti.
