The Ateneo Art Gallery, the country's premier museum of modern Philippine
art, together with Unionbank, Metro Society, Y Style of The Philippine
Star, Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Land and Smart Gold and with the support
of Artesan, Common Room Networks Foundation, Art Network Asia, La Trobe
University, Timbuk2 Philippines and Maxxium Philippines Fine Wines &
Spirits, present the 2007 Ateneo Art Awards: Global/Vernacular
exhibition, running from 2-7 August 2007 at the North Court, Power Plant
Mall and at the Ateneo Art Gallery from 20 August - 24 September 2007.

The exhibition at Power Plant Mall is followed by the awards night on 8
August 2007 at the Rockwell Tent where the three winners of the premier
contemporary art prize for young Filipino visual artists will be
announced. The awards night will also reveal the recipients of the three
Ateneo Art Gallery Studio Residency Grants, chosen among the three
winners. This year, the Ateneo Art Gallery Studio Residency Grants are
hosted by La Trobe University, Bendigo, Australia; Artesan Gallery,
Singapore; and Common Room Networks Foundation in Bandung, Indonesia with
the support of Arts Network Asia. The expansion of the residencies
reflects the theme of the exhibition, Global/Vernacular, which is
recognition and credence, acknowledging Philippine art has its own
nuances yet believing it moves beyond local context to reverberate

The exhibition is complemented by the Power of Art, a project of the
Ateneo Art Gallery and Power Plant Mall where past and present Ateneo Art
Awards short-listed and winning artists design the window displays of
select stores at Power Plant Mall. Participating artists and stores
include Christian Tamondong and Carlo Saavedra for Figaro, Annie
Cabigting for T, Racquel de Loyola for K & Company and Mac Valdezco for
Aranaz. The window displays are running for the full month of August at
the mall.

As a service to patrons of Power Plant Mall, people may have their
artworks appraised for a minimal fee of Php 1,500 per artwork during 4-5,
11-12 and 19 August 2007 by appointment at Power Plant Mall. The service,
Artpraisal, is being offered by Chichi Salas of Gallery Genesis.
