CDM book encourages project proponents to help environment through renewable
energy projects

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), one of the flexibility mechanisms
established by the Kyoto Protocol, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
assist countries in attaining sustainable development. In connection with
this, Carbon Finance Solutions (CaFis), an organization advocating the CDM
mechanism released its book titled: “CDM Baseline Construction for the
Electricity Grids in the Philippines.” The study was written by Alvin Mejia
and edited by Fr. Roberto Yap, S.J.

The study hopes to encourage CDM project proponents by giving guidance on
emission reduction and by helping to overcome data constraints on electricity
grids as it uses whatever data is available in the Philippine setting to be
able to arrive at emission factors.

The study which was prepared by the klima Climate Change Center of the Manila
Observatory for the Environmental Management Bureau of the DENR under the
Integrated Capacity Strengthening for CDM (ICS-CDM) Baseline Data Archiving
project and funded by the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES)
can be downloaded for free from www.iges.or.jp/en/cdm/index.html or
