3rd QUARTER STATUS REPORT

(Monday, 27 November 2006)

POWER: The cost of electricity is still increasing. The good news is that despite increasing electricity costs and more facilities, conservation measures instituted by the different units have reduced KWH used compared to last year as shown below:

COMMUNICATION: The PABX and Internet systems are being upgraded. the PABX room behind Xavier Hall will be expanded to accommodate the CNG servers that are currently at Faura Hall and the new PABX equipment. All communication lines converge at the PABX room. This will substantially improve efficiency in the operation and maintenance of both systems and improve services. A more detailed update on the Internet system will be released by the Campus Network Group (CNG).

WATER: Cost of water is also increasing. Water conservation measures are also imperative. So the community will appreciate current consumption and cost, comparative water consumption and cost for 2005 and 2006 in Loyola Heights, Rockwell and Salcedo are shown below:

TRAFFIC: Traditionally traffic gets heavier towards Christmas. Katipunan traffic is aggravated by the road concreting at B. Gonzales St. and E. Abada adversely affecting access to Miriam College and Ateneo. On campus, the construction of the Leong Center will also alter traffic flow on University Road and the diversion road between Gate 2 and Gate 3 this December.

Accidents on and off-campus increase proportionately with heavy traffic. The community is encouraged to observe the Christmas spirit and exercise more patience and tolerance while driving.

SECURITY: Carelessness remains the major security problem on and off-campus. With more students in Loyola Schools this year, the number of losses increased significantly as shown below:

The incidence of hold-up, snatching and car break-ins increases towards Christmas. Conmen have gone back to Katipunan and claimed their first victim. A 2nd year college student staying at the residence hall was victimized in front of Cravings last Saturday, 25 November. Again, the community is reminded to be alert, vigilant and careful.

FOOTBRIDGE UPDATE: The Quezon City Engineer's Office allowed the use of the footbridge today after minor rectification work was done in the last few days.
