About SR. MARIA A. DE GIORGI

Sr. Maria has a degree in Educational Sciences from the Sacred Heart 
University of Milan. She majored in Cultural Anthropology and did field 
research in Congo in 1974. Sr. Maria then joined the Xaverian Missionary 
Sisters of Mary in 1976 and went to Japan in 1985. There she took part in the 
foundation of the Shinmeizan Center for Interreligious Dialogue where she has 
been working since 1987. In 1999, she obtained a Doctorate in Theology from 
the Gregorian University in Rome. Her dissertation was on Faith and Grace in 
Christian Theology and in Pure Land Buddhism. At present, she is the Assistant 
Director of Shinmeizan Center for Interreligious Dialogue and a member of 
Interreligious Commission of the Episcopal Conference of Japan.
Her books include Seimeizan: Frammento di un Dialogo tra Cristiani e Buddhisti 
in Giappone (1989) and Salvati per Grazia Attraverso la Fede: La Salvezza per 
Grazia Buddhismo della Terra Pura e nel Cristianesimo (1999). She has also 
cooperated in the Italian translation of Tannisho (1989) and translated The 
Heart of Buddhism by Yoshinori Takeuchi into Italian (1999).
